Small Spells is a brand, but it is also indistinguishable from me the person…
Rachel Howe
I created Small Spells in 2012 in Brooklyn, NY without a plan for my brand. I now live in Los Angeles, and it has grown to encompass many of my interests, from esoteric studies to design and illustration.
Small Spells evolved from a ceramics line into a center of tarot and astrology teachings; from writing daily horoscopes and making funny t-shirts to becoming a recognizable style of illustrations used in apparel and hand-poke tattoos, and a voice of healing and accessible insight that has reached thousands.
There is something for everyone at Small Spells, especially for those who want to reach beyond the usual, but stay grounded in reality.
A reading with me offers optimism and a supportive perspective, while a tattoo with me can share a sense of fun and adventure. Anyone can take home a piece of Small Spells through my product line, which includes a series of illustrated books on the esoteric arts and healing, and a self-published Tarot deck, in both color and black & white, as well as objects for the home and digital offerings of classes and guided meditations.
I truly believe that everyone is capable of transformation and healing, and I always seek to support those who are finding their way towards feeling better in their experience of the world.
My words are offered as helpful insight, meant to open mental and emotional pathways to healing. After a decade working in healing modalities — first learning reiki, then tarot and astrology, and now hypnosis, always led to a new teaching in an organic, serendipitous way, guided by intuition and spiritual connection — I offer a wise and compassionate presence for those searching for self-understanding.
Throughout my life, I have worked through my own struggles and obstacles, witnessing my transformation as I learn new ways to care for the self and participate fully in human experience, without hang-ups or blocks (Virgo North Node!). I use this first-hand experience to affirm my belief that anyone is capable of change and growth, and that everyone deserves to pay full attention to the lived experience of the self. In my career, I am always working to help others to see their own power and agency, using compassion, humor and lightheartedness, and trust. I have cultivated my unique voice as a writer and as an illustrator, creating works that are instantly recognizable as my own.
At the heart of it all, I believe that life is meant to be lived as an open and free experience of learning and loving.
When we surrender into this vibe, we can experience life without a ton of judgment, pain, and anxiety. Instead, we can honor ourselves as beings capable of enormous amounts of care-taking of the self and others, forgiveness of the self and others, and true cultivation of the self, and others.
